All About Cutting Out the Narratives
What is he truth of a painting, the image, the colours or the other materials used for making the image and the canvas? What do the frames do to a painting? Standing before a painting one hardly asks these questions. A work of art is a finished product that contains an image and a secret. The viewers believe that it is their duty to unravel the mystery, animate the inanimate and impart to or extract meaning from the given frozen moment. ‘What is the meaning of it’ is the question that is often heard from galleries and places of art exhibition. Everyone expects ‘a’ meaning even if they do not want ‘the’ meaning. They, by now know that there is no ‘the’ meaning in a work of art. But at least give us ‘a’ meaning so that we can go home happily, they seem to say.
